Growing Shadow

Imagine that you are standing outside on a sunny day, and you see your shadow on the ground. At first glance, you might see your shadow as a solid, permanent object with a clear form and identity. However, as time passes and the sun moves across the sky, you start to realize that your shadow is not a static, permanent object. In fact, your shadow is constantly changing and is dependent on various conditions for its existence.

For example, your shadows size and shape are dependent on the angle of the suns rays and the objects that block the suns light. If you were to move closer to or farther away from the light source, or if the angle of the suns rays were to change, your shadow would also change. Moreover, your shadow does not have an inherent self-nature or essence. It is simply a projection of your body onto the ground, dependent on various conditions for its existence.

This recognition of the emptiness of your shadow can help us to uncover the nature of emptiness in all phenomena. By realizing that all things lack inherent self-nature and are dependent on various conditions for their existence, we can begin to let go of our attachment to fixed ideas and identities. This can lead to a greater sense of freedom, compassion, and wisdom in our lives. Just like the shadow, everything is in constant flux, changing, interdependent, and without a fixed nature.
